Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome! Woodingdean Primary School is a popular 2 form entry school on the outskirts of the city of Brighton & Hove.

Dear families,

I am so proud to be welcoming you to Woodingdean Primary School. We are committed to providing an outstanding learning experience; an experience that is inclusive of all children enabling them to reach their full potential and nurture a sense of pride in our school community.

Our teachers are highly dedicated and always go the extra step in securing excellence in everything we do as we believe our children deserve it. We have consistently high expectations and provide experiences that enable the children to meet them.

At Woodingdean Primary School every child is given the right opportunity to thrive, ensuring that any barriers are removed so they make excellent progress and achieve as highly as possible.

We aim to build a safe, respectful, inclusive, creative and challenging environment that prepares the children to be motivated, independent and positive members of their community.

We can only do this when we all work in partnership; children, parents, staff, governors and representatives from our community. We are a very open school and welcome the diversity of the community we serve.

I am delighted with our recent survey with parents and children. 97% of our parents say that their child is happy at school and 97% of our children say that they feel safe at school.

We all look forward to welcoming you to have a look around but in the meantime please have a look at our website for a glimpse of what happens here.

Parental Involvement

A very positive feature of this school is the wonderful support and involvement of parents and carers and other family members. This might be through membership of our very successful Parents Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA), by volunteering to help in class, helping on trips, becoming a member of the Reading Bugs reading group, coming along to our Parent Forum, joining in with Reading Mornings, attending parent workshops or by participating in our support groups. Our families also get involved in many school social events, the Brighton Festival Children's Parade and the Woodingdean Carnival.

Our very active parent governors on the governing body bring a parents' perspective to discussions at important meetings and when making decisions that affect the work and direction of the school.

Our School Site and Resources

We are very fortunate to have extremely spacious and well cared for premises on a safe and enclosed site with wonderful views over open down land and the sea. We have extensive grounds including large, well equipped playgrounds and very large playing fields.

Our new Reception entrance area and new remote gate system has significantly enhanced the security of the whole school. We have a fabulous outside learning environment and gardens openly accessible to our Reception children and several allotments and garden areas for the children to enjoy and explore all around the school.

Internal facilities are very good, including excellent adaptations for our pupils and visitors with disabilities.

We have a separate Community Room for parents and community use, a large hall with a stage, a very large indoor activity and play area for our infant children and well resourced and spacious classrooms. We have a dedicated meeting room for private meetings and several special rooms for children to receive additional individual or group support.
