Governor Vacancies

Now is an exciting time to be a governor at Woodingdean Primary School. We welcomed our new headteacher in May 2021 and are currently embedding a new vision and values through the school with a refreshed strategic direction. Our recent initiatives include a Forest School and introducing OPAL at playtimes, both making the most of the incredible outdoor setting our school enjoys.

Our school is at the heart of a vibrant and diverse community. We take pride in our inclusive ethos and actively promote a culture of openness, where everyone›s views are represented, and everyone has a voice.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, to be a role model, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills to grow yourself.

There is no requirement for you to understand the education system. We ask that you have time available to get involved, an enquiring mind, the confidence to ask questions and participate in the debate and a genuine interest in supporting our school to achieve the best outcomes for our children. The Local Authority provides excellent training, support, and resources for new governors.
Schools need and benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their governing board; we are looking for individuals who bring skills through their professional work or life experiences to strengthen our culture of inclusion. We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage applicants from a BAME or White Other background and those who identify as disabled or LGBT as these groups are currently under-represented on our governing board.

We hold six Full Governing Body meetings per academic year. Each governor also sits on one of our committees; Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing, and Resources. These groups meet termly, and there may also be other roles to fulfil, including school visits and the opportunity to support on school trips throughout the year.

We are happy to answer any questions from anyone with interest in applying. Please do not hesitate to contact our clerk who will be more than happy to help: chellemccann@woodingdean.brighton-hove.sch.uk .
