Physical Education

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

Intent

At Woodingdean Primary School, Physical Education is an integral part of our curriculum that is inclusive to all and aims to increase children’s activity levels. We provide all our children with opportunities to develop a love of sports and encourage them to understand the importance of good health and wellbeing. We want our children to develop core skills in a wide range of sporting activities and participate in competitive sports while demonstrating a positive attitude towards fair play.

Implementation

At Woodingdean Primary School we aim to:

  • INSPIRE by providing high quality coaching experiences in a range of sports.
  • EXPLORE by ensuring children feel comfortable to participate in new sporting opportunities.
  • ENGAGE by providing a varied and inclusive curriculum.
  • DEEPEN by participating in competitive sporting opportunities and making connections with external sports clubs.

Impact

A pupil leaving Woodingdean Primary School will leave with an understanding of the importance of an active lifestyle and will have experience in participating in competitive sports. Our children will have had opportunity to develop the key fundamental skills required to enjoy sport and physical exercise and will understand and implement the core values of sport such as honesty, respect, fair play, self-belief and resilience.
